Description: Magnus effect demo. A string is wrapped around a paper cylinder which is hanged like in yo-yo. After the cylinder is released, it starts spinning while moving in the vertical direction. Then Magnus effect deflects the cylinder in the horizontal direction. Winding of the string in the opposite direction causes deflection to the opposite side.
Notes: To find the direction of the Magnus force you need to go to the reference frame of the cylinder. A trickier, but more impressive version of this demo is 2C20.70 - Bjerknes' Tube.
