PIRA Classification: 5A30.10

Description: A PVC rod is rubbed with black cloth to produce a negative charge. Two electroscopes are connected, first by wire then by string (see movies above). When the charged rod is brought near one scope, the second scope connected by the wire deflects. Replace wire with string. When the rod is brought near one scope, the second connected by string will not deflect.

Special Instructions: Make sure you hear the build up of charge on the rods. This will be indicated by a crackling noise. Will not work well when humid (beginning of fall semester or summer session).

Condition: Good
