PIRA Classification: 5A40.15

Description: Two electroscopes have conducting rods replacing their standard plates. The two rods are brought together such that they are touching. A charged PVC rod is placed near one rod without touching. Both electroscopes react. While holding the PVC rod near, move the far scope away. It retains its charged state.

Special Instructions: Make sure you hear the build up of charge on the rod. This will be indicated by a crackling noise. Will not work well when humid (beginning of fall semester or summer session). It may take one or two tries to build up sufficient charge.
