Description: A small wedge of plastic is placed on the lecture bench (see photos above for its geometry). Push down on one end of the rattleback and quickly release. It will start to rotate. Another demonstration is to rotate in different directions. Rotating it counterclockwise will result in smooth rotation. Spinning it clockwise results in the object stopping, rattling for a short time, and then reversing direction of rotation. A camera will be set up and the motion can be observed on the television monitors.
