Description: A large parallel plate capacitor (with a dielectric inserted between the plates) is connected to an electroscope. When a 3000 V power supply is switched on and the lead brought to the capacitor, the plates will charge and the electroscope will deflect slightly. When the power supply is removed from the circuit and the dielectric is removed, the electroscope will deflect even more.
Special Instructions: Make sure the plates are in contact with the dielectric.

Safety Issues: Touching the charged plates can give a bit of a jolt.
